South Coast Boat Cruise & Ferry Business

This well established ferry and pleasure cruise business operates two historic world war II naval boats from Weymouth Harbour on trips along the jurassic coast and the ferry service to Portland. It was originally established in 1947 and has been operating in the town since.

The two boats are licenced as MCA Class 6 Passenger Vessels for 41 and 52 passengers, giving the potential for very good profits when operating with full boats. The business operates from April 1st until October 31st, offering Jurassic Cruises several times a day, and 3 or 4 round trips of the Portland Ferry. The ferry side of the business has been growing rapidly over the last couple of years, especially with locals who are getting to know it’s there.

We purchased the business in 2012 and are only the third owners since the war. We spent a considerable amount of money renovating the boats, including installing a new engine in one of them (My Girl). The business is a traditional part of the Weymouth town scene, and the boats have a lot of historical interest. My Girl is a registered Historic Ship and as such grants are possible for her maintenance.

This could be an ideal business for an owner-operator who could maximise profits during the 7 month trading season, and may suit a semi-retired person as there is plenty of free time in the off-season months.
