Tarves is around 15 miles from Dyce (Aberdeen) Airport and a similar distance from the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route that has transformed access in and around as well through Aberdeen city.

The area around Tarves offers easy access to ancient castles, stone circles, whisky distilleries and spectacular cliffs and sandy beaches. The beautiful stately home and extensive park, Haddo House, now looked after by the National Trust for Scotland, is situated on the edge of the village.
